On form: Gaga still managed to bring the glamour in a gorgeous gold dress, fur boa and massive feather headpiece

She has proved she's a die-hard fashionista and will choose style over comfort any day.

But the unpractical stilt-style heels that Lady Gaga insists on wearing have finally proved too much.

After a day of modelling for famous photographer Annie Leibowitz in New York, the popstar had to be carried by her bodyguard to the last set for the rest of the shoot.

Right-hand man: The same bodyguard was seen holding Gaga up as she donned stilts for her Vanity Fair shoot

And the trusty minder was seen holding her up throughout the day as she walked around the sets in the block heels.

She even fell once, settling next to a hot-dog stand.

But she still managed to bring the glamour as she was carried from a car in Manhattan's Meatpacking District.

Tumble: Gaga fell after trying to balance herself, but she kept hold of her hotdog

The 25-year-old donned a spectacular feather hat, twice the size of her head.
It was paired with a sheer gold, full-length gown with a fur boa and a thin gold belt.

The photographs - to feature in vanity Fair - are likely to be stunning, judging by Annie's previous work.

Golden: Gaga posed with the iconic New York hotdog before she fell

Earlier, she looked incredible in a different gold outfit that bonded the two worlds of ancient Egypt and Regency France.

Eyes within eyes glittered over the singer's peepers as her hair trailed down over a tassled basque with intricate patterning, that resembled animal print.

But from the waist down, the native New Yorker was prepped for courtship at the Palace of Versaille in an incredible tiered skirt that hid the pesky stilts.

Time for a wardrobe change: Gaga later changed into a white jacket with fur trim, a middle-belt clinching her tiny waist

This incredible outfit looked to be juxtaposed with the classic trappings of a New York sidewalk, complete with $2 hotdog stand.

Indeed, Gaga was clutching a handful of meat and bread as she tumbled and still managed to hold into it, which can only be commended.

Whatever the hiccups, the results are sure to be amazing - and a paean to New York from two of it's most attentive daughters.

Why shy now? It looked like Gaga was clutching her fur hat from earlier to cover her modesty as a hairdresser tended to her platinum-blonde tresses

Gaga later changed into a white jacket with fur trim, a middle-belt clinching her tiny waist.

Her black fluffy hat and towering black boots complimented the outfit as well as her dramatic dark make-up.

It then looked as though she was using the hat from earlier to cover her modesty as a hairdresser tended to her platinum-blonde tresses.

But it may have all been part of the shoot.

No holding back: When the shoot finished, Gaga carried on her wacky style in a red 80-inspired dress while her bodyguard again held her up

Gaga spoke to MTV about her devotion to New York on the anniversary of 9/11, and told how it featured heavily in her last album, Born This Way.

'I mean, there’s so many stories that people don’t know,' she said.

'I wrote so many songs on this new album [Born This Way] about New York City. I mean, every song on all my albums has some relationship to New York City, but one in particular Marry the Night, that record is about my husband, New York.'

Always on form: Gaga stuck a number of poses as excited fans looked on, snapping photos of the star
