When it comes to defining great characters, nothing is more appealing than the reluctant and tragic hero. Myka Bering and Pete Lattimer are two prime examples of the rule.
Since the premiere of Warehouse 13, Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly) has taken the role of the staunch disbeliever. Myka is as straight as they come; the paranormal, though now her job, still remains foreign to her, but for the sake of the world she up for the challenge. Her by-the-book approach to life stands as a polar opposite to her partner, Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock). Pete, a gut-instinct kind of guy, has embraced the paranormal since he was a child. When he was a 12, Pete had the feeling that he would never see his father, a fireman, again. Instead of saying something to his father, he ignored his instinct. That day was the last he saw his father. Now, Pete lets his gut lead the way.
In Warehouse 13 Episode 11, “Nevermore,” Myka’s new job comes to haunt her when her father comes into contact with a macabre artifact. Although a decorated Secret Service Agent, Myka’s experienced tragedy before in Denver, Colorado. Now, tragedy may strike once again on the job – only this time, it may lead to her father’s death.
Strong characters faced with harsh realities, continue to make Warehouse 13 a success. Although it would be tragic to see Myka’s father die, it would only strengthen her character going forward. Pete is driven because of his failure to follow his gift for intuition. Myka must now fully embrace the world of the unknown, or suffer the loss of her father. If she fails, she will come out stronger. But as far as great TV goes, her failure could also result in a spectacular season finale.
