Husband and wife-to-be: Robbie Williams and actress Ayda Field are believed to be getting married on a Californian island today


Robbie Williams is due to marry actress Ayda Field on an island off California tomorrow.

But his fellow Take That members are not attending the intimate ceremony despite his recent return to the platinum-selling boyband.

Williams, 36, and Miss Field, 31, only told close friends and family of their plans a week ago - apparently too late for band members Gary Barlow, Jason Orange, Mark Owen and Howard Donald, who had all booked family holidays.

His best friend Jonathan Wilkes, 32, has flown out to Los Angeles and is expected to be his best man.

Following the ceremony, the couple will enjoy a two-week honeymoon before he returns to the UK to promote the new Take That single Shame which is due out in October.

Guests have been told to assemble at a small port before sailing out to the island of Santa Catalina which is a favourite spot for newlyweds on their honeymoon.

The island 22 miles off Los Angeles is described as a 'paradise' with crystal-clear waters known for its scuba diving, snorkelling and hiking.

The island is small with little traffic and does not have a single traffic light. It was bought by chewing gum magnate William Wrigley Jr. who planned to turn the island into a playground for the rich.

His friends including Charlie Chaplin, Clark Gable, John Wayne and Winston Churchill all stayed on the island. In the 1950s Marilyn Monroe lived there for a year and a half.

Various dates and locations have been given for the couple's wedding this year. A planned Valentine's Day ceremony was cancelled after the details were leaked.

Miss Field, an American television actress who has appeared in soap operas including Days of Our Lives, started dating Williams in May 2007. She moved in with the singer last year.

The couple bought a country house in Compton Basset, Wiltshire, but later decided to return to his £12million Beverly Hills mansion for better weather.

In November last year, Williams proposed to her during a live interview on Australian radio, but later said the proposal was a joke and they are not engaged.

Williams said of their relationship last year: 'I call her my Swiss Army knife because that's the way I feel about her - she can do anything.

'She was training to become a lawyer, but dropped out to become a comedian. She loves her football.

'If anything goes wrong with DVDs, computers or anything like that, she fixes them straight away.'

Williams has dated a string of high-profile women including Rod Stewart's former wife Rachel Hunter, Spice Girl Geri Halliwell and actress Cameron Diaz.
