Family snap: Christina Aguilera and her son Max pose with grandparents Shelly Kearns (left) and Jack and Gail Bratman outside Balthazar in SoHo, New York

As a relative newcomer to motherhood, Christina Aguilera is enjoying the novelty of Mother's Day.

But as the American singer and her son Max, two and a half, spent U.S. Mother's Day with her in-laws in New York, she made sure her own mother didn't miss out on the day.

Aguilera's mother Shelly Kearns - who is divorced from the singer's father - was treated to lunch at New York eaterie Balthazar yesterday.

Currently promoting her comeback album Bionic, Aguilera took time out to spend the day with husband Jordan Bratman and his parents Jack and Gail.

After their lavish lunch, the three generations did a spot of shopping nearby.

And despite being with her in-laws, Aguilera stopped by Agent Provocateur to check out some racy lingerie.

Further uptown in the Upper West Side was Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas with their children Dylan, nine, and Carys, seven.

However, their stroll home from their Mother's Day brunch was interrupted by a bomb scare when a suspicious vehicle was spotted by police on their street

The bomb squad shut down part of the road, but it turned out to be a false alarm after BMW employee test-driving a new car left the shrink-wrapped vehicle's engine running while he went for a jog in nearby Central Park.

Zeta-Jones, 40, was spotted comforting her daughter Carys, who appeared quite scared by the situation, as they headed back to their Manhattan apartment.

Meanwhile, across the country in Los Angeles, Victoria Beckham had flown back from London in time to mark Mother's Day with her crocked husband David and their three boys.

Apple of my eye: Driver gazes as her son

David drove the family in his Rolls Royce convertible to the Bouchon bistro in Beverly Hills for a Mother's Day lunch with Brooklyn, 11, Romeo, seven, and Cruz, five.

A few miles away in Malibu, English singer/actress Minnie Driver was having a more laid back Mother's Day as she brought her 20-month-old son Henry to the park.

Joined by a grey-haired male companion, Driver laughed with delight as she played with her son on the swings.
