Subo II? Janey Cutler thrills the audience on Britain's Got Talent

Frail, silver-haired, and 81 - she could not look less like a pop sensation.

Yet grandmother Janey Cutler is being hailed as a star in the making.

Mrs Cutler made a huge impression on the Britain's Got Talent judges in her audition, which airs on ITV1 tonight.

The pensioner's remarkable performance of Edith Piaf's Je Ne Regrette Rien prompted immediate comparisons with last year's surprise hit Susan Boyle.

The 3000-strong audience in Glasgow were initially taken aback by Mrs Cutler's arrival on stage but after she began singing they were on their feet to give her a standing ovation, as were judges Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden.

She said: 'I'm here to sing. I like singing, my friends say go in for it, better late than never. I've had a great life, hard times, happy times, no regrets.'

Getting into it: All three of the judges enjoyed the performance

Morgan said of her performance: 'I've never heard anything like it.'

Inspiring: After last year's show, Susan Boyle is now world famous

Mrs Cutler, who regularly sings karaoke in her local pub, was reluctant to try out for the show, fearing she was too old.

Close friend Terry Moore said: 'When I suggested that she enter Britain's Got Talent, Janey wasn't sure at first. She said, "What, at my age?"

'But she entered online and by all accounts the judges loved her. She sounds like Shirley Bassey in her heyday.'

Mrs Cutler, who is from Wishaw, Lanarkshire, has seven children and 12 grandchildren.

Like Miss Boyle, 49, she auditioned in Glasgow and she is tipped to be the big success story of the series.

Last year Miss Boyle went from living a quiet life as a church volunteer to becoming a global superstar after appearing on the first episode on Britain's Got Talent.

The video of her singing I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables in her audition has been watched by more than 500million people online.

Dubbed 'SuBo', she became a huge hit in America and appeared on high-profile chat shows interviewed by stars such as Oprah Winfrey and David Letterman.

Her debut album has sold ten million copies worldwide, gone platinum in 25 countries and was the top-seller of 2009.

Don't look now: University lecturer Hayashi, 36, performing a Samurai sword act, in which he chops up cucumbers while blindfolded

Also on tonight's show, the audience is treated to the Chippendoubles, a dance act dressed up to resemble celebrities such as David Beckham, Gordon Ramsay, Daniel Craig - and judge Simon Cowell.

Wearing masks and capes, the seven men perform to disco music.

Meanwhile, university lecturer Hayashi, 36, offers up a blindfolded Samurai sword act, which involves chopping up cucumbers attached to a helper's body.
