Letting it all hang out: Hollyoaks bar maid Bronagh Waugh arrives for the British Soap Awards


She may not be the most well-known of Hollyoaks actresses, but Bronagh Waugh is certainly the most daring.

The blonde turned up at last night's British Soap Awards dressed in a transparent shift dress, under which she chose not to wear a scrap of underwear.

With nothing more than some carefully placed sequins to protect her modesty Bronagh risked disaster as she posed on the red carpet.

Luckily for the actress, who plays man-eating Irish barmaid Cheryl Brady, her sequins did their job.

The 26-year-old joined the show last year, and was one of seven actresses nominated for the Best Actress gong.

Compared to Bronagh the other guests looked positively demure as they walked the red carpet, although with the usual colourful choice of dresses.

They were arriving for the soap world's equivalent of the Oscars, which saw EastEnders sweep the board.

The BBC soap, which celebrated its 25th anniversary this year with a live episode, won 10 awards including Best British Soap, presented by Paul O'Grady.

Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey Branning and announced she is quitting the soap this year, scooped two awards - Best Dramatic Performance and Best Actress, which is voted for by the public.

Charlie Clements, who played her husband Bradley, scooped Best Exit, for his death in the live episode which won Best Single Episode.

Scott Maslen, who plays Jack Branning, won Sexiest Male and Best Actor, which are both voted for by the public.

The Best Storyline went to Who Killed Archie Mitchell?, and Larry Lamb, who played him, also won Villain Of The Year.

Marc Elliott, who plays Syed Masood, a young British Muslim struggling to come to terms with his sexuality, scooped Best Newcomer.

Coronation Street, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, won three awards.
Sexiest Female went to Michelle Keegan, who plays Tina McIntyre.

Best Comedy Performance went to Craig Gazey, who plays Graeme Proctor, and 89-year-old Betty Driver, who plays barmaid and hotpot cook Betty Williams was presented with the Lifetime Achievement award.

Daytime soap Doctors won two awards, Best Dramatic Performance From a Young Actor or Actress and Best On-Screen Partnership.

Hollyoaks won the Special Scene Of The Year, while Emmerdale almost went away empty-handed, but for writer Bill Lyons being given a Special Achievement award.

Coronation Street's Keith Duffy (Ciaran McCarthy) had clearly started partying before he arrived at the awards.

The Boyzone singer embraced EastEnders' Cheryl Fergison (Heather Trott) on the red carpet and began singing.

Suzanne Shaw, who has just joined the cast of Emmerdale as man-eater Eve Jenson, wore a low-cut, fitted black dress to the ceremony and joked it was tough for her husband, DJ Jason King, to watch her kissing so many men on screen.

Fellow former Hear'Say bandmate Kym Marsh, who plays Michelle Connor of Coronation Street, also flaunted her figure in emerald green but remained tight-lipped on her forthcoming wedding to Jamie Lomas.

Pregnant Hollyoaks star Stephanie Waring (Cindy Hutchinson) looked radiant in a flowing peach dress, while former Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay (Shelley Unwin) - who was presenting an award - revealed she is expecting with twins, due in the autumn.
