Gal pals: Pregnant Amy Adams and Emily Blunt enjoy a day out in the Californian sunshine

They've been the best of friends since they starred as sisters in the critically acclaimed film Sunshine Cleaning.

But it was more a case of sunshine strolling for Amy Adams and Emily Blunt as they
went out for lunch together in Los Angeles yesterday.

Heavily-pregnant Amy, who is expecting her first child this spring, chatted animatedly to Emily as they sipped coffee while walking through the district of Venice enjoying the sunny weather.

And with the Oscar season in full flow in Tinsletown, it gave the girls a chance to dress down and relax in comfortable clothes before they are required to dress up in their posh frocks and strappy heels for Sunday night's ceremony.

Amy, 35, who has been nominated twice for an Oscar - Supporting Actress in 2006 for Junebug and Supporting Actress in 2008 for Doubt - looked happy and radiant as she showed off her burgeoning bump in a long, flowing grey dress, which she teamed with a long black cardigan.

Emily, 27, was also dressed down in grey skinny jeans, a baggy green striped t-shirt and laceless sneakers.

Emily and Amy grew close after forming a bond while filming the 2008 film Sunshine Cleaning, living next door to each other and cooking dinner together every night.

And Emily revealed that they grew so close that they ended up alienating the cast during the filming.

The Devil Wears Prada star said they were happy on their own during the making of the comedy drama.

She added: 'She’s probably the person I’ve had the most fun with on a film set.

'She’s just the best playmate I could have ever asked for because she’s fearless about looking silly. I think we probably alienated other people because we found ourselves very funny.'

The actresses played sisters in the movie, who set up their own business of cleaning up crime-scenes

And even though they sometimes audition for the same roles, Emily said Amy is her biggest supporter, and often recommends her at her own auditions.

She said: 'I think her manager said to her one day, 'You have to stop going into your meetings promoting Emily Blunt!' She was like, 'I know, but I think Emily would be better for (this part)!'

'So I don't really have much rivalry, or if there is any, I don't really know anything about it. Because, you know, I'm not around girls like that. The friends I have in the business, I'm always really happy for them. I think we're always happy for each other. That sounds crap, but it's true.'
