Tipsy: Lily Allen won her first Brit Award last night for Best Female Solo Artist, collecting the gong in an orange wig before hastily changing into a black bobbed one backstage

Lily Allen finally collected her first Brit Award last night as Lady Gaga emerged as the biggest winner with three gongs to her name.

The 23-year-old U.S. star won Best International Female, International Album for The Fame and International Breakthrough Act while Allen took the gong for British Female Solo Artist.

Other success stories were JLS, who won British Breakthrough Act and British Single, indie band Kasabian who won British Group and Florence and the Machine who took British Album title.

Collecting her award, wearing an orange wig, a tipsy Lily, who opened the show with her No.1 single The Fear, said: 'Wow, oh my god.'

Stunning turn: She wore fishnet tights and a racy black corset outfit complete with lace sheer sleeves

Then beginning to giggle, she continued: 'I only wore this orange wig because I thought I would make it more difficult for the cameramen to find me and catch my disappointed face.'

But as she host Peter Kay attempted to hurry her up by sounding a horn, Lily told him: 'F*** off, I'm not leaving. F*** you.'

She then thanked her team, her family and boyfriend Sam Cooper before exiting the stage, almost forgetting her award.

Racy: She opened the show arriving on stage on a sparkly rocket hoisted in the air

Legging it: Lily then made her way down a giant staircase before dancing with pink paratroopers

Her orange wig was then hastily removed and replaced with a smart black bobbed one as she happily posed backstage with her award, which she beat Leona Lewis, Pixie Lott and Florence and the Machine to win.

Three years ago Lily slagged off the awards show when she suffered brutal disappointment after being nominated for four Brits and failing to win any.

But last night it was Pixie Lott who suffered that disappointment after walking away empty-handed, despite being nominated in three categories.

Cleaning up: Lady Gaga won three awards, seen here accepting the International Breakthrough Act

Sombre: She performed solo on stage without her usual backing dancers and dedicated the set to tragic fashion designer Alexander McQueen, who was found hanged last week in his London home

Stylish: The star, who also won International Album and International Female Solo Artist, sang lesser known songs Telephone and Dance In The Dark

U.S. star Lady Gaga dedicated her performance to her friend, tragic fashion designer Alexander McQueen who was last week found hanged in his London flat.

She dropped plans for her lively routine featuring songs including her hit Poker Face and instead opted for a muted acoustic routine.

The star sang a mix of some of her lesser known tracks, including Telephone and Dance In The Dark. Gone were her army of backing dancers - instead she sang solo sitting at her grand piano

Brave face: Cheryl Cole made it on stage and performed Fight For This Love, but appeared to be lip syncing

Still wearing the Marie Antoinette-style wig she arrived in, the singer said at the start of her performance: 'This is for Alexander McQueen'.

Collecting her award for International Breakthrough Act later, presented to her by Cat Deeley, the emotional star said: 'Thank you so, so much. I love my fans, my fans in the UK.'

With her voice faltering she then added: 'And thank you to Lee McQueen.'

Cheryl Cole made it on stage to perform a version of Fight For This Love, despite her marital problems.

But she shunned the red carpet ahead of the show and stayed in her dressing room all night.

After her performance, to which she appeared to be miming, she said: 'Thank you, thank you' as she was cheered.

The Spice Girls were honoured with the prize for Best Brits Performance of 30 Years while Robbie Williams was handed the Outstanding Contribution to Music and sang a medley of hits past and present.

The Brit Awards rarely pass without incident and Liam Gallagher duly provided some controversy by swearing on the live show.

Picking up the award for Best Album of 30 Years, the Oasis frontman thanked the early members of the band, with the exception of older brother Noel, who walked out on the group last summer.

Arriving alone on stage, he yelled into the microphone: 'Listen kids. I want to thank Bonehead, Guigsy and Alan White. The best band in the f***ing world. Live forever.'

Delighted: Florence and the Machine with her Best British Album award and Jay-Z accepts the award for the Best International Male Solo Artist

She's got the Lungs: Florence performed on stage with Dizzee Rascal to her hit You've Got The Love

He then threw the microphone into the audience before wandering into the crowd and leaving the stage.

As he left the stage, host Peter Kay remarked: 'What a k***head.'

Lily Allen opened the show in a black corset dress and made her entry on to the stage on a suspended glittering rocket before walking down a giant staircase.

She was joined on stage by paratroopers dressed in pink military camouflage and women pushing Silver Cross prams.

Host Peter Kay called for 'responsible fun' and warned the stars he would sound a horn if they rambled on too much.

Double act: Jay-Z and Alicia Keys sang their hit Empire State Of Mind, with Alicia dressed in a low cut dress

Sam Fox, who presented the Brits in 1989 with Mick Fleetwood and famously fluffed her lines, was then brought on stage.

She presented the award for the most memorable Brits moment, a special gong to mark the show's 30th anniversary, to Spice Girls Melanie Brown and Geri Halliwell.

The girlband's 1997 performance of Who Do You Think You Are? which saw Geri wear the iconic skimpy Union Jack dress was 'overwhelmingly' voted as the Best Brit Performance of 30 Years by GMTV viewers.

They've got the X Factor: JLS (from left) Marvin Humes, Oritse Williams, JB and Aston Merrygold perform Beat Again, for which they won the award for Best Single

Double award winners: The former X Factor runners up also collected the award for British Breakthrough Act

Double award-winners JLS were the second act to entertain, performing a rendition of their hit Beat Again, for which they won the award for British Single.

Kasabian performed their 2009 top-five hit Fire, complete with screens of blazing flames.

Other performances came from Florence and the Machine, who won Best Album for her debut Lungs, who dueted with Dizzee Rascal.

Jay-Z and Alicia Keys also performed their track Empire State Of Mind.

Crowned: Robbie Williams sang a medley of songs after winning the Outstanding Contribution To Music award

Foul-mouthed rant: Liam Gallagher of Oasis holds up his award for Best Album of 30 years and thanked everyone besides his brother Noel before swearing
